In the real world: Electronic warfare (EW) is the use of the electromagnetic spectrum to effectively deny the use of this medium by an adversary, while optimizing its use by friendly forces. In Eve, Electronic Warfare is the focal point of PvP. A bigger ship can be made totally useless with as little as one module you fit in your ship. So if you plan on heading out of empire and into more dangerous areas its important you understand most of what falls under the EW category.
