EVE Explorer

This article is the main Help page for the EVE Explorerleaving this site on this site. It explains its purpose, basic use and gives some examples of typical use.

The EVE Explorer allows you to search the grismar.net database for solar systems, stations, agents, complexes or npc trade locations. You're able to refine these searches with restrictions like system security, presence of services, location and many, many more. A few simple examples of use would be:

On this page:

Basic use of the EVE Explorer

You start by selecting what you're looking for: systems, stations, agents, complexes or npc trade. You can have the Explorer show a full list by hitting run query or add a restriction straightaway. Note that the restriction may not make a lot of a sense if you haven't run the query yet, since they default to restrictions for systems.

Trusting the page

When you use the page for the first time, a dialog may pop up, asking you to trust the website. The page will work regardless of what you select, but only if you trust the page will it allow you to automatically log in to access your saved queries and will it be able to automatically show you distances to your present location.

Note: no data about your use of the EVE Explorer is retained, ingame use of the grismar.net pages is safe and private.

Building a query

Whenever you run the query, the EVE Explorer will display the results with your current set of restrictions and it adds a new line at the bottom, where you can enter an additional restriction. You can remove restrictions by checking their delete box and running the query again, or remove them all by following the reset link.

For a full description of the meaning of all the restrictions, read GrismarNetExplorerRestrictions. Most restrictions can apply to all the different views. So if you have a query set to show agents of level 3 in Lonetrek and you switch the view to show systems, it will show all the systems in Lonetrek with level 3 agents.

Reading the results

The results may be a bit bewildering at first, a lot of information is presented in a very small space. Each different view shows you a different set of columns and below are the explanations of the columns per viewtype.

In general, if a column heading looks like a link, you can click it to sort the results by that column. Clicking the same link again will sort it in the opposite direction. The same goes for most columns that have an image as a heading: click the image to sort the results by that column.

At the top and bottom of every view, you have links to jump to the first, previous, next or last page of the results. Using the pick page button, you can go straight to a specific page number.

To the right of all this, you'll find the # jumps button and box. If you enter a solar system name in this box and hit the button, the view will update its Jumps column with distances from a result to that solar system. If you're using the IGB, you will also have the option to select current, to set the box to your current location. And from the IGB, the box will show a starmap and info icon, allowing you to view the system in the map or to open its info window.

An additional feature of the image jumps column is that you can click the number of jumps to open the Navigatorleaving this site and see a shortest route to the location.

Any result marked with the image info icon, corporation icon or item icon allows you to open the associated info window in the IGB (for solar systems, constellations, regions, stations, agents, etc.) If you rightclick an info icon for a location, the popup menu for the location will appear, allowing you to view it on the map or to set a course for it.

Show systems results
The show systems results contain the following columns:

Show stations results
Show stations doesn't currently include (player built) Outposts. For conquerable stations (a handful of these exist in 0.0 security), the 'corporation' column may no longer list the proper owner.

The show stations results contain the following columns:

Show agents results

The show agents results contain the following columns:

Show complexes results

Show complexes is similar to the (faster) complex listleaving this site, but allows the same restrictions as the other views in the EVE Explorer.

The show complexes results contain the following columns:

Show npc trade results

The npc trade results are based on the eve-online.com itemdatabaseleaving this site (oog) and list items bought or sold by npc corporations. Note that the base price listed is usually somewhat below the actual price on the market.

The show npc trade results contain the following columns:

Advanced use

Once you get the hang of using the EVE Explorer, you may want to specify queries that are very specific. To prevent having to build queries over and over again, you may want to register an account with the Explorer and save your queries.

Save queries

If you register an account (valid e-mail required, please pick a password different from your account password) and log in, you can save your queries. Simply build a query, enter a name in the text box and click the Save button in the top bar. Note: selecting a previously used name will overwrite the old query.

To load a previously saved query, select it from the dropdown menu in the top bar and click Go. If you check the Delete box before you click 'Go', you will delete the old query instead of running it.

Logical operations

Every restriction in the query starts with a small field that allows you to select 'NOT', 'OR' or 'OR NOT'. These are so-called logical operations and they allow you to select the opposite of a query restriction or combine multiple restrictions in a single query.

NOT
Using the NOT operator results in the opposite of the restriction being applied. For example if you have the EVE Explorer set to 'show systems' with the restriction 'with sovereignty containing ..' "Gallente", the Explorer will list all Gallente systems. If you change the restriction by setting the logical operator to 'NOT', the Explorer will list all systems that aren't Gallente.

OR
Using the OR operator allows you to combine multiple queries into one. For example, if you have the EVE Explorer set to 'show systems' with the restriction 'with sovereignty containing ..' "Gallente" and the restriction 'with sovereignty containing ..' "Caldari", the Explorer will list no systems at all. Afterall, there are no systems that have both "Gallente" and "Caldari" sovereignty. If you change the restrictions by setting the logical operator for the second restriction to 'OR' the Explorer will list all systems that are either Gallente -or- Caldari.

OR NOT
The OR NOT operator is merely a combination of the OR and NOT operator. For example, if you set the EVE Explorer to 'show systems' with the restriction 'NOT' 'with sovereignty containing ..' "Gallente" and 'OR NOT' 'with security of' ">0.4", the Explorer will list all systems that are not Gallente controlled or have a security of less than or equal to 0.4.

Note that in this case (and most other useful ones), you could also have specified the query without the OR NOT operator: 'show systems' 'NOT' 'with sovereignty containing ..' "Gallente" 'with security of' "<= 0.4".

Some examples

Here are some examples of typical use of the EVE Explorer, to give you an idea of the possibilities. The examples assume you are starting with a 'reset' Explorer, follow the 'reset' link to get there.

All level 3 agents working for Caldari Navy, offering kill missions, with a quality level of 15 or better:
You should end up with a list of 3 agents, 2 of which are in Kaunokka. Looks like Kaunokka is a good place to go for high level Caldari Navy kill missions that pay well.

The closest station with a cloning facility and a repair shop:
The top 5 results should now be stations that are only 1 jump away. Apparently there are no stations in Jita that have both cloning bays and a repair shop, but these five do.

A system with ice belts, high security (0.7 or better) and a reprocessing stations:
There's actually quite a few of these. No less than 78 systems satisfy the restrictions, happy mining!

Current EVE version: 4.10.45943 (Trinity 1.0.1)
